Astrocartography: Discover the hidden purpose behind your relocations

When I discovered the fascinating world of astrocartography, I didn’t know that it would change the way I view my life’s journey as a former serial expat and someone who was born abroad.

As I traced the paths of my past travels and relocations, I was left in awe.

Each move, each place I called home, had a deeper purpose—one I hadn't fully understood at the time, but astrocartography helped me see the red thread.

This realization is what inspired me to offer astrocartography readings, to help you uncover the larger narrative of your soul’s journey.

In this blog post, I want to share the role that different locations in my life have played alongside my astrocartography lines.

What is astrocartography?

Astrocartography is a specialized area of astrology that maps out the planetary influences in different locations around the world based on your birth chart.

If you’re unfamiliar with astrology, here’s a simple way to think about it: just as astrology can give you insights into your personality, relationships, and life path, astrocartography extends this concept by showing how different places might affect you in unique ways.

Your birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the exact time and place of your birth. This chart is divided into different areas that correspond to various aspects of life, such as career, love, and home.

Astrocartography projects this chart onto a world map, showing where each planet’s influence is most potent - these are called astrocartography lines or planetary lines.

By understanding these planetary lines, you can gain insights into how different places impact your life and well-being.

What do the astrocartography lines mean on your world map?

When you look at your astrocartography map, you’ll see several lines crisscrossing the globe (you can generate your world map for free here).

Each line represents the influence of a particular planet, and where these lines fall in your birth chart can give you insights into how different locations might affect different parts of your life.

My relocation journey around the world through astrocartography

My birth country - Russia

I was born abroad to Estonian parents in St. Petersburg, Russia right on my Mars MC line right before the Soviet Union was about to collapse. Working with an Akashic reader, I’ve learned that this part of the world is connected to a past life of mine and painful ancestral history. In both cases, being a political activist was part of the experience - something that fits perfectly with Mars MC. To add fuel to fire, my Mars and Midheaven are conjunct in my natal chart, placed in my 9th house of my personal beliefs and foreign countries.

My first expat country - Switzerland

I moved out of home at a tender age - 16. My journey began with an exchange year and I never lived with my mother after that. The first country I moved to was Switzerland, which is where I find my North Node astrocartography line - my spiritual growth path.

There was nothing easy about my exchange year (living close to North Node rarely is, otherwise it wouldn’t be growth) but the minute I set foot in Switzerland, it felt deeply fated.

This country changed me profoundly and it’s the only country that I feel homesick for. To this day, when I land in Switzerland, a part of me feels I’ve landed home.

My backpacking journey - Australia, New Zealand

When I moved to Australia and New Zealand, I thought it was just a chance to escape and clear my mind. But as it turns out, I had landed right on my Uranus line—a planetary influence that helped me break free from old patterns and family expectations. It was living on the other side of the world that I gained the clarity around what I wanted to do next in my life and what was important to me in general.

My longest expat experience - Denmark

I lived in Denmark for 10 years and it was difficult in every sense of the word. Later on, I learned that I was living close to two Pluto lines, which I felt quite frequently. I kept facing situations that broke me open and forced me to heal parts of myself I didn’t even know were there.

I often needed a break from this energy, so I spent quite a bit of time and money traveling the world.

My escape countries - Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium

These countries always drew me back, and what unites them is that they have my North Node astrocartography line running through them or close by. So while I was living in Denmark, and felt challenged by almost every choice I made, by spending extended periods of time in these other locations, I was able to catch my breath and reconnect with my soul’s journey.

I needed these experiences in Denmark to become the person I am today, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Whether you’re considering a new move or reflecting on a place you’ve already lived, astrocartography offers insight into why you’ve been drawn to certain locations and what the universe has in store for you and how to navigate the energies there.

I’ve found confirmation to this idea over and over again through my work as an astrologer - there are no coincidences when it comes to the places we feel called to.

Instead of resisting this pull, I encourage you to embrace it with open eyes and an open heart.

Knowing what may be in store for you is what will give you a sense of peace and alignment about your chosen location.
